Cannery Row

Cannery Row by John Steinbeck

Interestiing and entertaining. This book evokes the twentieth century, 1920-1930 The Great Depression pre world war II atmosphere with the characters still enjoying life.I like the dynamics of the town, with Doc the doctor who is not a doctor, Mac and the boys who could be richl sucessful men but choose not to because of the fear that it would ruin them, Lee Chong the amiable chinese grocer, and Dora who runs a brothel. The story gets moving when Doc decides he needs 500 frogs and Mac and the boys decide to go get them. Disaster ensues. Pretty good story line and in the end the disasters are righted and friendships are strengthened.

I rate it a 10 out of 10. Although It wasnt a cover to cover read. I read it over a period of two weeks with other books in between mostly because i kept leaving the copy at grandmas etc.
